How does Sculptra® work?
Sculptra® is injected into the deeper layers of the skin, where the poly-L-lactic acid gradually stimulates the body's own collagen production. Rather than providing an immediate, visible change, Sculptra® works over time — as collagen builds, the skin becomes firmer and more structured, with results typically first becoming noticeable from around one month after treatment and continuing to develop over the following months. Because the improvement comes from your own collagen, the results tend to look subtle and natural rather than sudden.
What happens during the treatment?
Your appointment will begin with a full consultation and skin assessment to make sure Sculptra® is the right treatment for you and to talk through what results you can realistically expect. The product is then reconstituted and injected using a fine needle or cannula technique, with the number of vials and treatment areas tailored to your individual goals. Most patients find the treatment comfortable, and a course of treatment typically involves two to three sessions spaced around four to six weeks apart, with your plan agreed together during consultation.
What happens after treatment?
After your treatment, you can return to most normal activities straight away. It's normal to see some swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising or small lumps at the injection sites in the days afterwards — this generally settles on its own. You'll be shown how to massage the treated area at home, which is an important part of aftercare with Sculptra®. Because results build gradually as your own collagen develops, visible improvement continues over the weeks and months following each session, with full results typically seen after your course of treatment is complete.
