Nuchido Time +

An important tool to help reduce your cellular age

What is NAD+?

It is an incredibly important molecule. It is naturally found in every single cell in your body.

NAD+, or Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, is a coenzyme found in all living cells. It plays a crucial role in various biological processes, including energy metabolism, DNA repair, and cell signaling.

In simple terms, NAD+ is important for 2 major functions

1.Cellular energy production - It is important for the pathway which converts foods we eat to the energy our cells need to function

2. Cellular maintenance and repair - so broadly speaking, if you have high energy of NAD that means high levels of  energy production and high levels of cellular repair. If you have low levels of NAD this means low levels of energy production and low levels of cellular repair.

So why is NAD linked with ageing?

Well the issue is NAD levels in our cells are found to decline as we get older.

This is a problem as NAD levels decline, our energy production declines, DNA repair turns down, accumulation of damage within our cells. This manifests as the signs and  symptoms we associate with ageing.

Now it is estimated our NAD levels halve every 20 years - quite a significant amount considering how important this molecule is within our bodies.

It is well established in scientific research that Low NAD levels are linked with ageing

Low levels: faster ageing

High levels : slower ageing

Symptoms of low NAD include -

  • Decreased energy levels,

  • Decreased cognitive function

  • Increased recovery time after exercise

  • Disrupted sleep patterns

  • Decreased muscle strength and stamina.

We see the effects of ageing from the outside; the loss of energy, stamina, reduced physical strength, appearance of fine lines, and grey hairs….But ageing actually begins below the surface, at a cellular level - these changes are known as the ‘Hallmarks of ageing’.

They stop cells from functioning properly and allow the accumulation of the damage that causes ageing.

To slow ageing, we must take a cellular approach, by fixing the root causes of cellular ageing. NAD+ can target these hallmarks of ageing to restore cellular health.

Menopause & NAD+ levels

Did you know that a recent study found that during the transition between peri-menopause and menopause a woman's biological age can increase by 9 years in just 6 months.

Another study found the rate of biological ageing doubled during menopause.

This is likely due to oestrogen decline and also a rise in chronic inflammation

Our NAD+ levels also decline and can be accelerated during this time.

As a general rule, as we age our NAD+ levels drop by approximately 50%

Increasing your NAD+ levels can help to reduce this cellular ageing, and can in turn, help to reduce some of the associated symptoms.
